According to a March 22, 2024 press release, “The Jamaica National Agency for Accreditation is now the only internationally recognised accreditation body in the English-speaking Caribbean, delivering technical training and accreditation services to laboratories, inspection and certification bodies in eleven (11) CARICOM states.”
They are recognized by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under that agency’s Laboratory Accreditation for Analyses of Foods (LAAF) Program. The Bahamas has yet to achieve such a certification, but these certifications and guidelines may affect our ability to bring foods and other commercial items such as bush medicine or pharmaceutical marijuana to international markets. It also affects our ability to assess food safety concerns in our country in order to reject imports or reestablish import and export of blacklisted items.

Where do you go for information on food safety on your island or in your country?
