On August 13th, 2023 we went to collect some Cocoplum from former Prime Minister Perry Christie’s property in Adelaide. There were lots of learning opportunities that day, but perhaps the most surprising was my first time observing cannibalism in anoles.

This is Jill Cooper. You were potting mangrove propagules in my garden at Fortune Hills recently with your sons. I have seen anole cannibalism in my garden at least 4 times. I have a pic of a recent event!! I also saw a snake eat a lizard at least 20 years ago. I was mad at the snake cos it was eating one of my friendly curly tail lizards. Also saw a red tailed Hawk on the ground on it’s back fighting to control a snake in it’s claws and bill. It took at least five minutes for it to maneuver into a flying position and escape to a nearby pine tree carrying the snake in it’s claws. Our natural /nature world !!

Wow Jill!
Thank you for these notes. Remember that adding your observations to iNaturalist or eBird can help us to detect changes in our native biodiversity and better support the wildlife that need us.
